Conn's Day

We wanted to bless Conn before the big move and we wanted as many family members as possible to participate in the blessing. We have always blessed our babies in church, but this time we asked Bishop Nethercott if we could bless Conn on a Monday and at the church. We were so happy that he allowed us to do this. It made it so all these amazing men could hold my baby as his Father gave him a name and a blessing.
Family friend Kurt Sand, "uncle" David Major, cousin Vinnie Hansen, Bishop uncle Mike Hansen, uncle James Olenslager, cousin Darrin Haderlie, uncle Brian Olenslager, Bishop Mark Nethercott, Tyler and Conn Hansen, (orrin, vivin and carter) uncle Kaleb Redden, Grandpa Chad Dana, cousin Mason Hansen, Granddad Rick Hansen, uncle Jerry Hansen, uncle Alan Haderlie, cousin Colter Hansen.
Talk about a circle of tall men!! I am so thankful for all the support that Conn received. It was amazing to watch as our families filled the Relief Society room. This was the last time we had all our families together. There was tears but they were full of love.

Talk about a head of hair. This little one has stolen my heart. How thankful I am that he has been sent to our home and to our family. What a precious gift.

His blessing blanket was crocheted with love by his Great Grandma Thelma Dana. Each stitch was a labor of love. Truly a keepsake.

Tyler and I are so thankful for all the love and support that we receive. We truly have the most amazing families ever. How glad I am that our sons will be raised with such a love. We are so blessed.

It's all in the Name: Orrin

Each of our children have meaning behind the name that they were given. They have each been named after an individual that Tyler and I hold great love and respect for. It is interesting to see the personalities of our boys develop and see that they share strong characteristics with the men they have been named after.
Our Orrin is named after, Orrin Porter Rockwell. Tyler and I had read a book about Porter Rockwell and loved everything about him. His love and dedication to the Prophet Joseph Smith and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints is something that we hope Orrin will look to and find strength in. We wanted our little one to have the conviction to God that Old Port had.
What we didn't take into consideration was the other strong characteristics that would come through.
Wikipedia has this to say about Orrin Porter Rockwell:
Porter Rockwell was that most terrible instrument that can be handled by fanaticism; a powerful physical nature welded to a mind of very narrow perceptions, intense convictions, and changeless tenacity. In his build he was a gladiator; in his humor a Yankee lumberman; in his memory a Bourbon; in his vengeance an Indian. A strange mixture, only to be found on the American continent.
Wow, right. Orrin's personality has been given a whole new light!
But still, even with that said there is still the words of the prophets that offer some peace.
At Porter Rockwell’s funeral, Apostle and future Church President Joseph F. Smith spoke and said the following about Porter –

“They say he was a murderer; if he was he was the friend of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and he was faithful to them, and to his covenants, and he has gone to Heaven and apostates can go to Hell… Porter Rockwell was yesterday afternoon ushered into Heaven clothed with immortality and eternal life, and crowned with all glory which belongs to a departed saint. He has his little faults but Porter’s life on earth, taken altogether, was one worthy of example, and reflected honor upon the church. Through all his trials he had never once forgotten his obligations to his brethren and his God.

3 Weeks of Changes

Wow, I can't believe that it has been 3 weeks since our little Conn joined our family. Time flies when your having fun! Conn has added so much love to our home. The boys just adore him. They are full of loves and kisses for this little one. Tallon is a ton of help as always. It is a good thing he is so independent and helpful. The twins are really full of it right now. With all the changes going on in our home it isn't to surprising. I am looking forward to getting life settled again and having them become a bit more human.I have been most impressed with Van. How he loves his little brother. He only cries about Conn when he is not allowed to hold him. He squeezes just tight enough to let Conn know he is holding him and kisses him on the head all the time. It really has been nice. I was a bit more than a little worried at how Van was going to react to being a big brother. Tyler is hating being away so much. He loves his little ones. The other night Tallon and I had pack meeting for scouts so Tyler got a good couple of hours with his little man and I think it was good for both of them :)I am loving being a mom of 5 boys. I am exhausted, but happy. I will be so happy when we get this move over with and are finally together as a family again. I think everyone will be a lot happier. Well the babe is crying, there went my 5 mins of peace:)

here is His story on his due date

It is funny how things happen. You pray and pray that they will just work and sometimes they do. Friday Nov 18 I had a doctors appointment along with a NST, AFI, and an ultrasound. My mom went with Van and I to help and drive because Tyler had to work. The nurse informed me when I was waiting that because I was 37 weeks the doctors were going to check me to make sure labor was coming anytime soon. I hate being checked. One of the perks of C-sections is not having to be checked. I protested to the nurse, she laughed at me, and I got checked. Maybe a half a centimeter no more. Great. The NST showed that I was having some contractions but nothing to be concerned with and the ultrasound showed all was holding steady. See you in 5 days. Mom and I decided to finish some shopping at Kmart. I felt some contractions but not anything that made me worry so home we came. Tyler got home around 6 and we were looking forward to a fun filled weekend of preparing for a baby. You know, wash clothes, find that car seat, put up the bassinet, that sort of stuff. I was really hoping that the doctors would let me move my C-section up a week and just have the baby the day after Thanksgiving. Tyler and I were commenting on how handy it would be if the baby would just come this weekend. Tyler would only have to miss 2 days of work and have the holiday weekend off. Wishful thinking. Around 8 I felt kind of a different contraction. One that caught my attention and made my mind start to spin. A few more confirmed my worry and I started freaking out that we had NOTHING ready to have this baby THIS weekend. I started running around the house trying to put something together, I started shaking, and then crying. I was not ready. Not ready for a ride to Jackson in pain on very slick roads, not ready to prepare myself for the possibility of not making it to the hospital in time to deliver this baby, and most definitely not ready for a C-section if it came to that. We will just say that I was not ready. I thought I was but nope. Tyler finally had enough of me and sent me to bed. He packed my bag, put the kids to bed, and came to check on me. It was now 10:30 and I decided it was stupid to wait. The roads were terrible with a capital t. Why was I laying in bed waiting instead of just going to the hospital? So, Sherri was called to stay with the kids and we were off. I wasn't in pain which surprised me. I was having contractions and I expected them to take off like they did when I had Van, but they didn't. They stayed there but nothing big. Half way to Jackson I was starting to worry that I had jumped the gun. We got the the hospital around 12:30 and the nurse told me they would monitor me for a few hours before admitting me and calling in the surgery team. I thought she was nuts. I explained my last delivery and she thought it was a great story nothing more. Oh well, if I got to VBAC that would be great. I just didn't want the pain that was involved. I was checked and found that I was at a 3. Good, I wasn't just imagining. I was monitored for a few hours. Tyler tried to sleep, so did I, but no luck. We had both been up since 5:30 and we were exhausted. The contractions stayed steady but not painful, and at 4 they decided to admit me and start preparing for surgery. I really thought that there was no way I was going to make it to 6. I was ready for a VBAC and hoping for one. By 6 am I was prepped and ready for my 3rd C-section. Doesn't Tyler look just great in his surgery getup.

I was given my spinal block and in mins I was throwing up. Man I hate that about surgery. I always get so sick. I ended up throwing up 3 times before the ordeal was over, yuck. The surgery team was awesome. I love my doctor. She came in with big hugs and smiles, and told stories through the entire surgery. Finally she said "here he comes" and Tyler took the most amazing picture over the curtain.
Yep that is my baby being pulled out of my stomach. I thought it was going to look gross, but it is honestly my favorite picture of all time. My babies really do come out of my tummy!!! Doctor Pockat was there with a lot of help. The anti E issues are huge and they were so prepared. Tyler thought it was great to get a pic of the baby upside down.
Here is Conn in all of his cuteness.
The doctors were so pleased with how Conn was doing. Dr. Pockat brought him over to me to see. This is me meeting my son. My arms were strapped down so all I could do was look, but it was wonderful to see him and hear him crying.
Off the the nursery Conn and Tyler went to get checked out and to be closely monitored. They also had the blood sugar issues to worry about. I expected they would be gone for a few hours making sure Conn was okay.

I was so excited when they called me in recovery and told me his weight and that he was doing well. I never expected to see Tyler come walking through the door holding Conn. Here I am holding him for the first time. I even got to nurse him while I was still in recovery!
Before we knew it we were in our room with our little one. The doctors were so pleased with Conn's health. Dr. Pockat came in checked on us regularly. He was so impressed. He made the comment that anti E comes with such a variety of problems and Conn wasn't showing a sign of any of them. "It is just historic" was Dr. Pockats statement. Conn never once had to leave our side. His health is truly a result of many prayers and many miracles. Conn and his proud Daddy
My favorite part of him is his hair. Surprisingly it isn't red! It is the prettiest mix of brown with frosted tips.

Conn Arwith Hansen. He is named after his great great Grandpa Kennington, Arwith Dick Kennington. I love the name. It has to grow on quite a few people but I know that it is a name that Conn will be able to look to and find great strength in the man that bore it before him.

How blessed we are! A perfect baby, born on the perfect day. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers that helped with the health and development of this precious little one. Truly our family is blessed with his arrival.
