Hard earned money

After years and years of hard work and time spent in the garage, his time has finally paid off. I would tell you what for, but then he would go to jail, so I will just smile for now!

Doon = Deer

Orrin: "Mommy, look a doon!"

Vivin: "Shoot the doon!" (makes a gun sound)
Orrin: falls the ground dead and kicking
Vivin: proudly looks over his trophy, cuts off his horns and triumphantly shows his mommy, "Mommy! Look my doon!"

Can you guess what has been happening at our house lately?!?!?

New Pics of the Kids!

It's that time of year again! We only had 45 mins of good light and really uncooperative kids, so I am amazed that I got these to turn out. Enjoy

AAHHHHH the Goat Hunt

No fall is ever complete until we have went on THE GOAT HUNT!! It is ridiculous that it is so much fun, but every year we are reminded that it is one of our favorite things to do. This year I was fulfilling church responsibilities, so I missed out, but Tyler and the boys had a ball. (Don't worry, I still have to fill my tag, so I still get to go)
Here are my 3 handsome boys dressed in the appropriate attire.

Orrin and Vivin loved to see the "cantaloupes" up close. Here they are with the first kill of the day.

Jacob got all bragging rights for the day with this humdinger of a goat. Tallon can't wait until he is old enough to hunt. Only 5 more years, but then who's counting?

Tallon and Clancy being ever so helpful.

Jacob with his goat. He dropped it with one shot at 282 yards with his trustie .243

Vivin bonding with the darn thing...

and then taking his turn holding its head up. (Orrin was over goats after the first one, so he was off playing somewhere and missed his chance for a pic)

The proud little brother

The 3 boys stopping for a rest at the meadow up Sheep Creek. By the end of the day everyone needs to stop for a good stretch and get a much needed break from the truck.

They took 3 tags with them and came home with: 3 stinky goats, 9 dirty and tired kids, and to many to count fun stories of the day. My guess is that it was a successful day.

Happy 9 Years to US

Tyler has a sense of humor that just kills me! He is always quick to laugh and find humor in situations. Sometimes it is a weird sense of humor, but fun just the same. He can make most any time fun and doesn't mind goofing around. He has always been very straight forward and you never have to guess what he is thinking. He has a special love for family, the gospel, the priesthood, and the temple. He is so loving to me and the boys. He was the first to say I Love You, and there is never a day that he doesn't tell me he loves me at least 5 times. He is quick to say I'm sorry and mean it. He has a smile that makes me melt, and a laugh that makes tears run down my legs. He loves to be out shooting, fishing, riding, hunting, and camping, but is good to stay home and help with the boys. He has put aside his own intrests and hobbies for the past 9 years and dedicated his whole self to his family. He has a special relationship with each of his boys, mostly built by daddy days and late night rocking. He takes pride in everything he does and is humble about his accomplishments. He is my joy, friend, and eternal companion. What I love about him the most is that he is just Tyler! What convinced me the most? He did his own laundry!! Who could ask for more.

What a Sight!

Dad called the other day and said "If your going to take the dang thing come and get it, or I will do something else with it", so we went and got it!!

This is the old truck that is a part of every memory of my childhood. My first memories are hunting memories. Dad, Grandpa Van, Jennie, and I would load up in it and drive for hours looking for elk up Grey's River. I was the smallest so my spot was under the stick with a gun between my legs and I loved it. It is the truck Grandpa and I used to herd Beefalo (a cross of beef cows and buffalo) when they would get out in our fields. I drove it to high school for 2 years and had everyone trained to wave as she went down the road. I love the old thing and probably just because of the memories that she holds. She now has rust spots and no exhaust, has probably over 300,000 miles, but she still runs. She needs a little TLC and the spare tire put back on the front and she will be as good as NEW!

What a Weekend!

We had a great Labor Day weekend. The daughter came home, Tyler and Tallon got some hunting in, and we even got a joy ride in on the Ranger.
Tallon and Tyler were up bright and early to hunt chickens. Here are a few of the fun shots Ty got.

We loaded everyone up in the afternoon and went to Crystal Lake. It is always a favorite. We took a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed it at the little picnic spot they have.

Here is the beautiful lake. It is fed by springs and is the prettiest green ever!

Of course the twins threw rocks...

and the girls relaxed and enjoyed some R&R together.

No trip is complete without the "family shot" in front of the lake.

This was one of the very few weekends this summer that we have got to do something that wasn't planned but turned out to be sooo much fun. It is kinda nice when that happens!

MMMM whats that smell?!?!?

Pears of course! I was told that is how you tell they are ready to bottle. Who knew you could tell by the smell. Such a pretty sight. So here we go. First you need to call and beg your grandma to help. I don't know why, but I can't bottle my fruit unless I have my grandma. Spending hours with just me and her is my favorite part of putting up fruit. I learn so much and they are hours I treasure.
Grandmas are best at the peeling. Trust me. When I try it, we have pears going everywhere! Off the ceiling, on the floor, across the table, trust me it is best if grandma does this part. Of course she needs to bring her "special" peeler, there can be no substitutions here!
Next we quarter the pears. Only do enough to fill around 5 jars. Place in a bowl of COLD water, we don't want them to brown now do we.
Place quartered pears into prepared jars. I love that I just send them through the dishwasher. I am told that I have it so easy. There was a time with they had to be washed, washed, and washed again. It was quite the process. A dishwasher makes life worth living!
Place the 5 jar into a baking pan (i think it just makes it easier to carry them) but this is a necessary step. We added 3/4 cup sugar to each jar. Yumm!
Fill with hot tap water, making sure the top of the jar is clean from any left over sugar, put a lid and ring on and twist tight, flip those babies over and let them sit for a few minutes (not real sure why they need to be flipped on their tops, other than the fact that that is the way grandma does it).
Fill a kettle with water and place the jars in until water is just over the top. Encase you were wondering why 5 jars,...that is how many fit in the pot! Once they come to boil, time them for 15 minutes.
Carefully lift them out and set them on the counter, and make sure they are out of the way of any breeze so they will seal. Note to self: make sure all windows and doors are closed. Grandma really can't stand the thought of having a breeze, could send her over the edge, she might even take her peeler and go home. Shut all windows and doors!
Repeat this process about a billion times and in the end you will find your counters filled with lovely jars full of beautiful white pears!
Left wondering what you are going to do with the pears that were just a little to ripe for the bottles. Make pear butter. It is as easy as 1 2 3.
1. Peel and quarter pears
2. Send through the blender
3. Put in kettle with sugar and cinnamon to taste
4. Cook for HOURS!! until the consistency that you want (just found out that pectin will speed up the cooking process, that would have been nice to know at 2:00 in the morning!)
5. Place in hot jars and seal

What a good feeling to see jars full of pears and pear butter!
